Mixed Doubles Title for India

Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi of India won the 2009 Australian Open at Melbourne. Their mixed doubles final match was against Nathalie Dechy of France and Andy Ram of Israel. Mirza and Bhupathi took less than an hour to record a win in straight sets of 6-3 and 6-1. Mahesh and Mirza became the first Indian pair to win a Grand Slam mixed doubles title. Sania became the first Indian woman to win a Grand Slam. For Bhupathi this is his 11th Grand Slam title and 2nd at the Australian Open. The 16-year-old Yuki Bhambrio of India earlier won the boy's junior championship on Saturday. This Australian Open turned out to be a season of development in the sport of Cricket for India.
